Unity In Christ: Humility

Humility!

The act of being humble seems to have taken a back seat these days in sharing our message of Christianity. I know there are many who will say, we must boldly go forth and preach God’s word, yes, this is true. My thoughts are, can’t we preach God’s word boldly, and still have a humble heart, bold, but humble? (All of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 1 Peter 3:8) We ARE being bold just by sharing what God has laid on our hearts, that IS boldly sharing God’s word. It takes that measure of boldness just to speak out and say, I’d like to share the word of God. Can we reach more eyes, ears and hearts if we share, in a humble manner, thoughts that will edify the word of our Lord? I believe we can.

Most of us have been gifted with opportunities, not available in previous time periods, that allow us to speak our minds boldly, whenever we choose. These opportunities have turned some of us into keyboard monsters, mindlessly sharing our thoughts, sometimes without caring whether there is a shred of truth to support our thoughts. These monster actions are present daily on all forms of Social Media, and many messages sharing God’s word appear the same as many others, in your face! None of us are perfect, so trying to appear to have all of the answers ourselves, and criticizing everyone else, will most likely cause more hate. Can we just let the word of God be the answers?

When Jesus speaks, even in His majesty and glory, His words always are spoken with a heart of humility. Actions are a great force in changing hearts and minds, just as Jesus washing feet show the actions of a humble heart. The greatest power in the universe, His last hours on the cross are even filled with a humble heart, not a heart of hate or vengeance. (And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. Luke 23:34)

If we want others to hear what God has to say, should we listen to the Holy Spirit, and speak with humility in our hearts?  Wouldn’t it be better to speak in a manner of serving others instead of giving orders? Would it not be better to share with a loving heart, as opposed to hate? Glorifying God is our purpose, and that purpose should be displayed every day and in everything we do or say. I am a firm believer that we can share God’s word with more love and unity in our hearts, but we need to practice more humility.

God is always in control, we cannot be God and we cannot control others actions, so let’s turn it over to the one who has the power. If we choose to plant the seed, the Holy Spirit will take root. (He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 2 Corinthians 9:10) Prayer and Humility.

Hey, let’s humbly plant some seeds and let go–let God.

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Philippians 2:3

  1. I have been faithful to God since before I was even in grammar school. Ended up as the lead singer in a church choir. I try to steer away from demanding statements & try to lead by example. I try to follow God’s word & care the love. Living without Jesus Christ is like breathing without air!!
