The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one
John 17:22
As we go throughout our daily Christian lives, every now and then should we not ask ourselves, am I content?
There are many of us who never really ask that question because it does not occur to us that we may just be going through the motions. When I say motions, I am referring to the way we have certain rituals that we tend to follow every day, week, month and year. Going to church on Sunday, saying the same prayer before dinner, celebrating each holiday in the same fashion, just to mention a few. Not saying that there is anything wrong with some rituals, however there are some that might hinder our Christian growth, like just being CONTENT being a Christian. This becomes more of a ritual or habit because it is easy.
Am I just existing?
Some call them habits, or just daily life, but however we may think of them, are our habits advancing our walk with God? We all can get in a pattern, and feel comfortable with that pattern, when we never realize that just being a Christian, and not growing, hurts us and those who we encounter on a daily basis. (Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. Romans 15:7) I can rate this pattern or habit similar to saying, it is mine and you cannot have it.
When we keep our Christianity to ourselves (HABIT), others around us may never know or understand the joy we can experience, or the love that flows in our hearts. Christianity is to be shared with one another, not necessarily as an evangelist or missionary, but most importantly through our actions and how we communicate our actions to those associated with us.
Do As I Say?
The kingdom suffers each time our actions are on display to others, in a way not in tune with Christ and how Jesus would handle the situation. Yes, each time we curse, each time we gossip, each time we treat our brothers or sisters in a way different than how God would, we are legitimizing these actions to some that, this is OK, as long as we love the Lord we are perfectly fine.
Being CONTENT to just be a Christian becomes our norm at times, our habit. We feel as though as long as I am saved, what does it matter, but with Christianity there is a cost. When we made that proclamation to accept Christ into our hearts, that was the beginning. (For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10) We are expected to walk in those good works, “created in Jesus Christ for good works”, that is why God has given us this Grace.
Pass It On
Each one of us has been created different in body, mind and spirit, so we are not all going to be missionaries for Christ, and we are not all going to be pastors. However, each of us has a duty in our walk to share those “Good Works” along the way. To share how the Lord has touched our souls to make us whole. To live, to the best of our ability, an example of how God would live among each of us today. None of us are perfect but striving for perfection is closer than not caring at all. God knows our hearts.
It does not take monetary wealth to share God’s Love, it does not take power amongst our peers, but spiritual wealth and power comes from The Holy Spirit, and that we can share anytime and in oh so many ways. It does however take a mindset that we are not going to be CONTENT to just be a Christian. We want to share The Love of Christ every moment we can, we long to share The Love of Christ wherever we go. What we do today may change someone else forever! (Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. John 5:24)
Are we CONTENT? We might need to start looking at ourselves.
