With the current situation our world is in, Christians have wonderful opportunities to spread the powerful word of God in monumental ways. One of the main problems we seem to be encountering is instead of spreading God’s word, we are too busy tearing each other down, and the messages are getting trampled if not totally forgotten. Our Christian Ways are getting tossed!
In the USA one of the huge debates we are now encountering is to wear a mask or not to wear a mask, of course in an attempt to slow down or halt the spread of COVID-19. While this has already taken on a political life, some feel that’s all that it is, it has also divided Christians in a way we would hope no one would ever have to deal with or see. Not only do we argue on social media, but it is causing problems within congregations, praise teams, choirs, church staff, and of course, with pastors.
Is there a possibility of finding some type of unity where we can share a message that will help magnify the powerful testimonies we can share, instead of giving the world more ammunition to try and destroy our faith? Even though we may have differences in opinion as to the effectiveness of wearing a mask, is it our duty to try and shame someone or force our opinion onto someone else; don’t we all have free will? Maybe it’s time to just stop, wait on the Lord and seek a little wisdom. ( Psalm 37:7)
I’m sure most of us have noticed, that when we start debating political issues, the hair starts to stand up on our necks and backs, just like what happens with my German Shepherd when he is looking at a squirrel through the window. What we have to do is find a way to listen to others, not start barking and look to tear them down, but find some way to show them respect. Do we really need to tell them that we disagree, that you are wrong, or that my thoughts are better than your thoughts? We can all be much better, and also be a great example.
One of our main objectives should be to stay humble, as one of my Facebook friends posted today (Philippians 2:3) Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. While some may say, I AM showing utmost respect to others by wearing a mask, I truly care about others, let’s not degrade someone else for feeling THEY ARE respecting others in their own way by not wearing one, there can be legitimate reasons. It’s not any of our jobs to police the world or govern others, unless we have attained, been elected or appointed to the position, let the authorities worry about that. God is ALWAYS in control, so pray that the correct decisions are being made, and let God be God. We can also show respect by not demeaning others when they do have a job to enforce (store or city policy). If you have a legitimate reason for doing something else, let’s just explain, and be nice about it. God would not want us to be seen or heard in a self-degrading way. (Angry Man)
It is fine to share your opinion, but let’s set a Christian example, respect. A lot of eyes are on us so let us be a shining example of how we can accept another person’s opinion without chewing their head off. We all will be much better. (Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 24:14)
Share your thoughts and facts here, let’s show we can practice some humility.
Galatians 5:19-21 gives us the answers as to how we, as believers who live in God’s spirit, should not behave. They are the ways of the world. Galatians 5:22-26 gives us the answers as to how we, as believers who live in God’s spirit, should behave. These are the fruit of The Spirit. It may not always be easy, but it is the way to live in harmony and spread God’s love. Be blessed, everyone!
A good and thought provoking piece. Thank you Rev. Boyd. Be Blessed!
Thank you! Blessings. 😇
The way I see it, we have a choice. I wear a mask as a person with Lupus as well as other health issues it is a no brainier! The fact that many chose not to practice the safety guidelines seems to be a two part problem. First is a mentality associated with non-conformists or a false sense of bravado, or possibly a lack of consideration for anyone other themselves. The second is a need to follow the herd that is always bucking the system, as if the more obstinate and difficult they become, the more they think of themselves as heroes! Even if I were not health challenged, I would still follow ALL the guidelines to protect my fellow man! At the start of this pandemic, I sewed 152 masks and sent them out to my family and friends! I even put out a notice on facebook to anyone who needed them and could not find masks let me know. Private message me your address and how many were needed, they would be sent out free of charge! Many responded and offered to send money. I declined and told to donate it to any church, as they would be needing the money. At 69 years of age I an so glad I am on my way out of this very troubled world, I know where I am going. The only hope I have is that things will change and people will understand the consequences of the choices the make! Hope this was what you expected in the answering of your question.
Thanks so much, glad to have you chime in. Blessings!
